Even though she was best known for her collages made out of magazine cutouts, Elisabeth Wild (1922-2020) worked in a variety of media and techniques which include oil painting, watercolors, acrylics, drawing, linocuts, textile design, ceramics, mask making, lamp and chandelier design, and wooden sculptures.
“Fantasía” (Fantasy) evidences her incessant artistic endeavors, through a series of works in different disciplines, which in turn tell the story of her life in Vienna, Buenos Aires, Basel and Panajachel.
During her last years, Elisabeth was more active than ever, producing one collage per day. And it was exactly at her ninety five years of age that her first ever museum solo show took place, combining some of her more historical works alongside her most recent collages.
Elisabeth Wild (1922-2020) was born in Vienna, and lived and worked in Lake Atitlán in Guatemala from 1983 until 2020. Her recent solo and two-person shows include Fantasía, NuMu, Guatemala city (2017); Monstera Deliciosa, with Vivian Suter, Proyectos Ultravioleta, Guatemala City (2016); Fantasías 2, with Vivian Suter, Kunsthalle Basel, Basel (2014); and Elisabeth Wild, Proyectos Ultravioleta, Guatemala City (2014). She participated in numerous group shows including The Mistake Room, Los Angeles, USA; Museo Tamayo, Mexico City, Mexico; and Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo, San Jose, Costa Rica. At 95 years of age, she participated in documenta14 in both Athens, Greece, and Kassel, Germany.
